In the Visalia photography scene since 1978, a professional photographer in Visalia since 1984
I have been in the photography business in Visalia since 1978, first selling cameras at Visalias JC Penney store, then moving on to a little camera shop in downtown Visalia, now out of business but located where the Sequoia Brewing Company is called Main Drug, then on to another just done the street called Alberts Studio and Camera Shop in 1986, before going full time as a professional photographer in 1993. It has been an honor to record the lives of countless couples and families over the years, and it’s still a thrill when someone comes up to me at an event and says I did their wedding twenty or thirty years ago. To be part of this wonderful community and the lives of the people in it is still exciting, and I still love the job. After twenty-six years of operating a studio on Main St. in Downtown Visalia, I am now operating my business from my home in Fresno. However, I still do the majority of my business in Visalia.

The Mamiya C330
Most photographers who have been around for a few years have a favorite camera or cameras. The equipment they had taken many memorable photographs with. I can imagine it's much like a guitarist with that one guitar that has become part of them; BB King's Lucille comes...
The Sports Memory Mate
Not your same old boring cardboard Memory Mates. Memory Mates, used mainly for sports photo packages, have been around for decades. We have used them since I began doing league sports in the 1980s. At that time (in the film era), Memory Mates were simple cardboard...
The Composite Photo
What is a composite photo? A composite photo is an image of several people that uses individual images, putting them together side by side in little frames and putting their names under each photo. Composites take the place of the traditional group photo, where people...
Spring School Photos: Backgrounds for 2023
We have offered a spring school photo program here at Roy Dressel Photography for many years. More and more schools are offering this because parents love the more relaxed style. They are especially popular with younger kids, pre-school and kindergarten. This is an...
Background Replacement for Headshots
What, no background? No need to carry a background with me, I’ll just put that into the photo on the back end.
Business Headshots on Location
Now that I have closed my studio and am working out of my home, I will be doing all of my business headshots on location. I have paired my kit down to something easily transported. It takes about half the time to set up and needs less space. Easier for me and for you....
Moving The Business Home
My former studio at 115 W. Main St. in Visalia Over the past twenty-six years, I called 115 W. Main St. in Downtown Visalia my second home. It's where I have photographed thousands of sessions, from business headshots to family portraits and groups of resident...
The Vivitar 283-A Photography Icon
The Vivitar 283 electronic flash is one of history's most iconic pieces of photography equipment. First introduced in 1972, it is still used today by many photographers, and up until about three years ago, I was still using them in my outdoor shoots. It was rugged,...
Delivering Business Headshots
Business portraits, or as they are often called, business headshots, are a big part of our business. I enjoy doing them because I meet many new people from all walks of life. Sometimes I find the short business headshot session, which took us maybe ten minutes to...
925 Page Mill Road: Kodak Film Processing
It's funny how our memory works. Why I would remember the address of a Kodak film processing lab that I have not used in almost 30 years? But I remember it like I had worked there for years. In truth, I had never seen the place, but I had mailed many rolls of slide...
Panorama From White Mountain View Point
One of my favorite places on earth (not that I have been to all of them) is the White Mountains east of the Sierras and the Ownes Valley. The main peak, White Mountain is 14,252 feet but few people know of its treasures, other than the Ancient Bristile cone Pine...
From Photo Impact to Photoshop
My First Photo Editing Program I just celebrated my tenth wedding anniversary, and I did what many do on an anniversary. I went through some of our wedding and honeymoon photos. Reliving the days all those years ago. Being a photographer, I decided to revisit the...
