Engagement photo sessions

Engagement photo sessions are a big part of the wedding photography coverage of Roy Dressel Photography and have been since we began in business back in 1984.  When we began our business, couples announced their engagement in the newspaper, and that was about it. But over the years, the uses of engagement photos have expanded.

The uses of engagement photos.

Engagement photos can be used on a signature mat or book, for save-the-date cards, wedding announcements, and your wedding website. Social media, of course, is also an obvious place to use engagement photos. You can also get photo stamps for the announcements and any personal gifts to be given out at your wedding.

The best time of the year

Outdoor engagement photo sessions here in the valley are best done in spring and fall. Winter is not only too cold but too drab.  Summer, of course, is simply too hot for the most part.

Locations, where to take engagement photos

Outdoor park locations like West Main Park to Kaweah Oaks Preserve. Kaweah Oaks is located just north of 198 between Farmersville and Exeter. It’s a beautiful spot and is where the photos that illustrate this post were taken.

In Fresno, Woodward Park and the Shinzen Friendship Gardens are good spots. You also may have your own location where you would like to take the session. Downtown Visalia or Fresno have good places to take photos (best on Sunday evenings when few other people are around)

How to dress:

They’re your photos; it’s your style; let it show. Dress in something that makes you feel comfortable. Dress up a little; after all, it’s a photo session, and it should be more than your weekend around the house clothes.

Using Props.

Bring things with you that tell your story. Do you ride a motorcycle, play golf, are you a bicyclist, do you fish?  Bring things with you that tell your story.  A simple chalkboard or sign with your wedding date on it works great also.

Kids, pets. Should we include them?

Yes, you should.  They are part of your life; make them part of your engagement photos. They don’t have to be in every photo, but they should be in some.

Our engagement settings are treated just like a regular portrait session.  (see our portrait prices)  If you have already booked us for your wedding, then the session is only $99 (unless it is included with your package), and the digital files are included with the shot.
